Tooting my horn

My intern supervisor (I should find out this week if I get the internship!) has told me that I need to work on tooting my horn and being confident about my work. What better practice than dedicating a post to talking about my work?

At the end of March, my work was featured in the Senior Art Show here at school. After the work was hung on the walls, I stopped by the gallery to check it out. Unfortunately I discovered that my floor plan was hung vertically and it should have been hung horizontally. I told them to fix it, but they didn't. I missed the opening reception because I was at the hospital with my sissie pooh, but it turns out that I won an award! Following the reception for the Senior Show, the art department presented awards to the students, and I won the Interior Design Major of the Year Award!!

This is one of my favorite boards. I love all these materials. It was a restaurant project.

About two weeks ago I completed my art gallery project. I spent the whole semester working on that project, and I don't think I've talked about it once. We didn't have a budget for this project, so I went way over the top. My favorite part of the art gallery was the lobby.

One side of the lobby was the reception desk, and the wall behind it is made of 3 Form. 3 Form is a sustainable material made from eco-resin, and the pattern I chose is see through and looks like it has silver confetti inside it.


On the other side of the lobby is the seating area. There are two Florence Knoll benches (I fell in love with Knoll furniture when I toured their showroom in Atlanta), two chairs which are very similar to Knoll's tulip chairs, a coffee table and on the wall there are two waterfalls.

The chair I chose isn't actually blue. I just forgot to change my Photoshop settings when I uploaded this picture.



For this project we learn how to use a new computer program-Google Sketchup, which would be a great program if it actually worked correctly. Here the perspective drawing I did using Sketchup of the lobby seating area. The flooring is marble, and the paint color is super bright white.

Last week we had our ASID local competition. I entered my art gallery project into the commercial category, and I won first place! I also entered my Studio Apartment project in the residential category, and I won first place for that one too! The Studio Apartment project was from last semester. I entered that project into the regional ASID competition back in February and won second place.

I'm very interested in sustainable design, and at the end of March I joined the US Green Building Council. I am now an Emerging Green Builder. I also signed up to take the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) exam. I have until the end of June to take the test. I need to get to studying - that test is very expensive! Here's a little bit about LEED from their website: "LEED is an internationally recognized certification system that measures how well a building or community performs across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.

Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions."

How's that for tooting my horn? I'm interior design major of the year, three time award winner, and hopefully about to become LEED certified!
